Susan Podbielski

Specialties:

Susan Podbielski, therapist based in the Upper West Side, New York.

I’ve been where you are now.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years as a network TV producer– a world that rewards achievement and punishes vulnerability. I know anxiety and burnout from the inside. I know what it’s like to hold it all together while secretly falling apart.

That experience –combined with a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling, over 10 years of clinical practice, and an NYU Langone Fellowship — is what I bring to every session with you. I don’t just understand your world in theory. I’ve lived a version of it. My past career taught me dedication and professionalism, but it also gave me firsthand experience with setbacks, and the challenges of maintaining balance under pressure. So when it comes to helping ambitious women navigate life’s challenges—let’s just say I’ve been there.

Evidenced-based, tailored to you

I specialize in helping smart, high-achieving professionals in New York untangle anxiety from ambition, overcome the difficulties of life transitions, and heal from trauma. Many of my clients are curious, caring, and driven, but find themselves held back by fear of failure, imposter syndrome, or difficulty setting boundaries.

I welcome LGBTQ individuals, college students, and all adults 18 and older.

On-line and in-person, Upper Westside-New York City

I believe therapy works best as a collaboration. You are the expert on your life—I bring tools, guidance, and perspective, but we move forward as partners. My approach is practical, solution-focused, and grounded in evidence-based practices, always tailored to your unique needs.

Over time, therapy should lead to real, measurable results—greater self-awareness, understanding, and balance. Together, we’ll track your progress so you can see and celebrate growth along the way. My goal is to help you feel better as soon as possible and get you back on the road to a better life. You should begin to feel some positive results within 12 weeks.

A partner, not just a listener

My therapy style combines honesty, compassion, and practical techniques. You can expect powerful questions that lead to meaningful insights for yourself and your relationships, and concrete tools you can apply outside of therapy.

I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Mindfulness & Meditation
  • Self-Compassion Techniques
  • Practical Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Every client is different, and I tailor these approaches to meet your specific needs.
